Customer Service Representative

SUMMARY: Responsible for coordinating and participating in customer service activities for the Business Office. This includes resolution of patient complaints, inquiries and billing adjustments if necessary. Answers patient payment questions. Also responsible for inventory control of office supply levels and ordering. Performs minor secretarial duties. Participates in the Business Office performance improvement and continuous quality improvement (CQI) activities.
Minimum Qualifications:
- Interacts daily with patients regarding billing problems, insurance information, registration forms, etc.
- Demonstrates the ability to assist patients and insurance companies with billing problems.
- Develops and maintains working knowledge of services offered and all applicable insurance guidelines regarding eligibility for coverage and reimbursement.
- Orders itemized bills for patients and insurance companies on request.
- Complies with all applicable organization policies and procedures.
- Answers telephone in a professional manner; routes calls appropriately.
- Coordinates all patient information and processes paperwork, including preparation of file for Billing Department.
- Assists with implementation of performance improvement program to meet state, federal and JCAHO standards.
- Handles the Business Office window; takes payments and makes change, etc.
- Maintains log and records; maintains a balanced cash fund; processes petty cash vouchers.
- Monitors office supply levels and places appropriate orders as approved by manager.
- Processes accounts and maintains appropriate records in a timely manner.
- Demonstrates a good working relationship within the department and with other departments.
- Demonstrates the ability to be flexible and organized.
- Batches all paperwork daily for submission to the Business Office.
Regulatory Requirements:
- High school graduate of equivalent.
- Knowledge of bookkeeping and accounting procedures.
- Ability to file, perform accounting functions, maintain records, understand reimbursement requirements and has good typing skills.
- Two years experience in insurance office or physician’s office or three (3) years general office experience preferred
