Clinic Medical Biller

SUMMARY: Responsible for maximizing the amount of money collected and minimizing the time period in which it is collected. This position requires full understanding and active participation in fulfilling the mission of North Sunflower Medical Center.
Job Functions:
- Prepares and submits clean claims to various insurance companies either electronically or by paper.
- Answers questions from patients, clerical staff, and insurance companies.
- Identifies and resolves patient billing complaints.
- Performs A/R follow-up processes which include but are not limited to contacting patients by phone, contacting insurance companies, correcting and resubmitting claims to third party payers.
- Conducts self in accordance with North Sunflower Medical Center’s employee manual.
- Maintains strict confidentiality; adheres to all HIPAA guidelines/regulations.
- Identifies, research, and reports trends to supervisors.
- Supports all payer type billing operations in the Rural Health Clinic(s)
- Participates in educational activities and attends monthly staff meetings
Skills/Experience:
- Knowledge of medical billing/collection practices.
- Knowledge of computer programs.
- Knowledge of office procedures.
- Ability to perform basic arithmetic functions
- Ability to operate a computer and basic office equipment.
- Skilled in answering a telephone in a pleasant and helpful manner.
- Ability to read, understand and follow oral and written instructions.
- Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with patients, employees and the public.
- Must be well organized, detail-oriented, and problem solver.
