Clinic Triage

Schedule: | Evening/Night: 5/2 Split – Every Other Weekend |
Summary: Perform a variety of medically related tasks in the Sunflower Rural Health Clinic. Responsibilities include interviewing patients accurately, recording vital signs and patient chief complaints. Be available and assist their assigned health care provider in all matters related to patient care.
Job Responsibilities:
- Accurately document in the electronic medical record all patient vital statistics and chief complaint.
- Respond appropriately to all patient concerns in a timely fashion.
- Perform any clinical tasks within his/her scope that the provider requests.
- Updating patient medical records
- Preparing exam rooms
- Collecting blood samples
- Arranging for labs and x-rays to be performed
- Perform administrative tasks such as answering the phone, scheduling appointments.
- Keeping a check on nursing station supplies and order when low weekly
- Promote a strong team atmosphere by volunteering for additional duties when applicable.
- Promote North Sunflower’s culture of “The Sunflower Way” in all aspects of job performance including interactions with internal customers.
- Assist with transporting patients.
- Respond to Shift Hound requests promptly.
- Return patient messages timely to ensure patient satisfaction.
- Assist the nurse assigned to the provider.
- Once the provider reviews diagnostic test results and gives directions, he/she will notify the patient.
- Schedules follow up appointments as directed by the provider
- Completes the end of the day processes:
- Empties HIPAA containers into the shredder boxes
- Ensures all labs are picked up and phone calls returned
Additional Responsibilities:
- Maintains an organized and clean work area
- Participates in maintenance of clinical supplies
- Participates in staff meetings and training opportunities when offered
- Performs other incidental and related duties as required and assigned
Physical and Mental Demands:
- Physical requirements
- Able to stand or walk for long periods
- Use of proper body mechanics
- Normal concentration and normal complexity of decision making
- High level verbal and written communication skills
- Above average ability to manage multiple tasks simultaneously
Occupational Exposure:
- High risk exposure to blood borne pathogens and chemical hazards
Job Qualifications:
- High school graduate or GED equivalent
- Medical Assistant training
- Minimum of 2 years of clinical experience assisting a nurse and a physician team
- Strong customer service orientation
- Strong team player
- Basic computer proficiency
- CPR certification is required within 3 months of employment at employee’s cost. Certification must be kept current to be employed with Sunflower Rural Health Clinic.
