Registered Nurse

Department:North Sunflower Rural Health Clinic
Hours: 3/2 split 3p-midnight, shift differential

Summary:  Perform a variety of medically related tasks in a general medical office. Responsibilities include interviewing patients, recording vital signs, and assist the health care provider in all matters related to patient care. Performs duties in a manner consistent with Sunflower Rural Health Clinic to ensure accomplishment of objectives.

  • Interview patients taking medical history, temperature and blood pressure. Records all vital information on medical record.
  • Performs basic lab tests including pregnancy, strep & mono test, urinalysis, blood sugar, hemocults, and other lab that doctor orders when laboratory personnel are not available. Performs venipuncture, EKG’s and ear irrigation.
  • Administers injections (routine immunizations, therapeutic injections, IV’s, etc.), applies and changes dressings, and removes sutures.
  • Assists physician with procedures and/or laceration repairs. Performs pulmonary function studies on the patients when applicable.
  • Adheres to Rural Health Clinic compliance guidelines
  • Practices within the scope of his/her nursing license in the state of Mississippi
  • Documents all procedures in the electronic medical record in a timely fashion.
  • Follows up with patients when newly prescribed high-risk medication(s) or in-home treatment(s) are ordered and documents the follow up in the patients’ medical record.
  • Follows up with patients when requests are made for medication refills, and documents medication updates in the patients’ medical record.
  • Handles Disposal of contaminated items according to OSHA and CLIA guidelines. Also handles disposal of general refuse.
  • Participates in clinical competencies when offered, and maintains applicable certifications such as CPR, TB skin testing, etc…
  • Order supplies and medications when necessary.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • 2 years of RN experience in a clinic setting preferred
  • Current RN licensure in the State of Mississippi and BCLS certification
  • Must promote and maintain patient confidentiality at all times
  • Administer injections, apply dressing changes and remove sutures
  • Knowledge of electronic medical records
